Merthyr Tydfil, one of the newer counties (1908) formed from former Glamorgan, has less than most counties in terms of ancient and medieval history, the area really began thriving during the industrial revolution, However, the landscape of valleys hills and hidden gems of history like the quarry fort of Morlais and the stately home of Cyfarthfa Castle, make Merthyr County well worth a visit.
